How You Can Help

Thank you for wanting to help!

Aplastic Anemia is a rare disease about which a great deal is still unknown. It seems there are more questions than answers about this critical illness. One purpose of this website is to raise awareness about aplastic anemia and other such critical illnesses. Aplastic anemia not only threatens to destroy a child's possibility of growing up, it can destroy the opportunity for a real childhood as well, causing pain and taking away innocence, trust, and most important, freedom. It is our goal to not only help ensure Kinsey survives this illness and grows into the wonderful, caring, responsible adult we know she can become, but also that she lose as little of herself as possible and is able to have a childhood even in the midst of this frightening horror she is living.

So many people have asked us, "What can we do to help?" Here are a few things you can do to help Kinsey or other children affected with similar diseases.

Make a Financial Gift

The drugs, transfusions, clinic and hospital visits have been incredibly expensive, even when Kinsey’s insurance covered the majority of expenses. Kinsey’s medical treatment has exceeded 1 million dollars.

To help with the expenses of caring for a critically ill child, make a financial contribution using this secure online form. You can also make a donation to the Caring for Kinsey T. Morrison Fund at any branch of New Mexico Bank and Trust, Wells Fargo Bank, or at any branch of US Bank. Checks can be mailed to the following addresses:

New Mexico Bank and Trust
Caring for Kinsey T. Morrison Fund
PO Box 1048
Albuquerque, NM 87103-1048
Wells Fargo Bank
Kinsey T. Morrison Fund
200 Lomas Blvd NW 12th Floor
Albuquerque, NM 87102

Donate Blood

Like those affected by many other diseases affecting the blood, Aplastic Anemia patients are kept alive with regular transfusions of blood and blood products, such as red cells and platelets. Donate blood and ask about becoming a regular platelet donor as well. For more information, call your local Red Cross chapter or United Blood Services. We are so grateful to the many, many strangers whose blood and platelets continue to keep Kinsey going! And we are especially grateful to the direct donors who have helped limit her exposure to the antigens of so many different people: Sean Jones (her cousin), Grandma Nancy (McDonald), and Mr. Donald Vachon (our landlord, neighbor, and friend). We are looking for another CMV negative platelet donor. If you are interested, email us.

Become a Registered Potential Bone Marrow Donor

Bone marrow transplants are the best treatment option when a sibling match is available and still often necessary (from a non-related donor match) when drug treatment fails months or years after it has begun. Get an HLA test and register with the national bone marrow transplant center. For more information, call your local Red Cross chapter or United Blood Services. While testing for minorities is often free, there is a fee for Caucasians, usually $75-$100. You may not save Kinsey, but you could very well save a stranger across the country or on the other side of the world.

Send Mail

Finally, Kinsey loves to get mail (email or postal) and would love to hear from you. Send her positive thoughts and wishes through either form of mail. Please e-mail Kinsey at Kinsey@CaringForKinsey.com or send postal mail to
