April 18, 2002: Media Update

KRQE, Channel 13 has agreed to cover the Kinsey story and I should hear from Kathy Wyatt, their health reporter tomorrow. Our friends Michelle Donaldson (a producer there) who lost a good friend to Aplastic Anemia ten years ago and Bill Anderson have been incredibly supportive! Simmons Media Group, too, has agreed to help. They are going to do two PSAs (Kinsey will introduce with something like, "My name is Kinsey Morrison. I am 5 years old and I have this yucky disease called Aplastic Anemia. There are lots of ways you can help...") In one spot, her doctor will then tell everyone about the importance of donating blood, etc. to help Kinsey and other children like her. The other spot will open with Kinsey and then have a NM Bank representative tell about the fund they've set up for her and ask everyone to donate to it. Both will give the website address. Also, Simmons wants to have us as guests on the Bob Swartz show (perhaps with Kailee Wells' mom, too, along with a doctor and bank representative. We owe a huge thanks to Bruce Pollack and Doris Budris there! Kinsey will do her interview outside as she cannot go inside the studio. Clear Channel has agreed to run some spots featuring the NM Bank and Trust account. We can thank our good friend Peggy Reed for that, along with Cindy Schloss. Channel 4/KOB TV has also agreed to help and I'm waiting to hear from their news director (thanks to Mike Burgess). My contact at the Journal, Carolyn Flynn, has also agreed to help, and I'm waiting to hear back from her. We have other potential contacts out there and are hoping for all the coverage we can get.
